As an artist I communicate ideas, concepts, and opinions using a visual language. My work is generally figurative in nature, although the figure may assume various forms. Recent series have explored such concepts as the figure and light, hair as metaphor for the body, self-portraiture, skeleton as self-representation, and the pregnant nude as a representation of the female body in flux. Many of the ideas I examine in my art are rooted in the personal; however, through investigation, they develop into broader, more universal notions about the body, its negotiations within environments, and the cycle of nature.
My portraiture is representational but painterly. While I ultimately use local color to depict my subjects, I do incorporate complementary color schemes to create depth and movement. My goal is to provide clients with finished portraits that hold both personal and visual interest.
